• Wynn Hospital Voted Eighth Most Beautiful Hospital — Wynn Hospital was voted the eighth most beautiful hospital in the country through an online poll conducted by Soliant Health. Forty eight facilities were nominated for the award. Said Soliant CEO, “Wynn Hospital has quickly become a source of pride for its community, offering both exceptional care and an uplifting environment. This recognition reflects the appreciation and respect it has earned from patients and staff alike.”
• Major Milestone First-Ever PFO Closure Procedure in Utica — The Wynn Hospital, flagship hospital for Mohawk Valley Health System, performed in August 2025 the first patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure procedure in Oneida County, a significant advancement in cardiac care for the Mohawk Valley. This innovative, minimally invasive procedure was performed by Colin M. Wright, a cardiologist with CNY Cardiology, and utilized the advanced GORE CARDIOFORM Septal Occluder. A PFO is a small, flap-like opening in the wall of the heart that, while common, can increase the risk of a specific type of stroke known as a cryptogenic stroke. The PFO closure procedure seals this opening, preventing blood clots from traveling from the heart to the brain and significantly reducing the risk of future strokes. According to the hospital, this achievement underscores Wynn Hospital’s commitment to expanding its range of specialized cardiac services, ensuring that residents of the Mohawk Valley have access to cutting-edge care close to home.
• New Mohawk Valley Surgery Center — MVHS in December 2025 celebrated the official ribbon cutting and open house of its new ambulatory surgery center — Mohawk Valley Surgery Center. Located on the third floor of the building, the Mohawk Valley Surgery Center features four state-of-the-art operating rooms designed to provide high-quality, efficient outpatient surgical care. The center was thoughtfully designed to enhance patient comfort, streamline care delivery and support an exceptional patient experience. The surgery center will offer a comprehensive range of specialties, including hand surgery, podiatry, urology and general surgery.
• MV Biotech Collective — Mohawk Valley Health System along with Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) and SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) signed in November a memorandum of agreement, formally establishing the MV Biotech Collective. This powerful regional alliance is designed to position the Mohawk Valley as a leader in biomedical innovation. The Collective unites the core strengths of the three institutions: MMRI’s foundational scientific research, MVHS’s critical clinical excellence and SUNY Poly’s advanced academic innovation. “This collaboration represents an important step forward for our region and for the future of healthcare in the Mohawk Valley,” said William W. LeCates, MD, president/CEO of MVHS. “By combining the clinical resources of MVHS with the research strength of MMRI and the academic innovation of SUNY Poly, we seek new opportunities to translate discoveries into better care for our patients and our community.”
• Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic Joins MVHS — The Mohawk Valley Health System Medical Group recently opened its new diabetes and endocrinology clinic following a merger with the practice operated by physicians Domenic Aiello, MD, and Alexandra Pellecchia. They joined MVHS physician Nay Linn Aung to form the new office. The merger with Aiello’s practice allows MVHS to offer comprehensive diabetes and endocrinology care to the patients of MVHS and the surrounding communities. The new office will provide diabetes and endocrinology care at the Faxton Campus located at 1675 Bennett St. in Utica.
