The Cayuga County Health Department administers vaccines to county residents who are unable to obtain vaccines due to lack of funds, insurance, or access to a health care provider who provides vaccines; and also serves as a resource for local schools to ensure children are vaccinated according to the established state immunization schedule. The Cayuga County Health Department participates in the federally funded Vaccine for Children Program (VFC) and the New York State funded Vaccine for Adult Program (VFA). These programs ensure all eligible persons have access to vaccines that protect themselves and their community. The Cayuga County Health Department also has sliding scale fees for residents who do not meet the criteria for these programs. Immunization clinics are available by appointment only. Immunization clinics and TB skin tests are offered by appointment only. Tuberculosis skin tests (also called PPD, TST, TB test, TB skin test, or two-step test) are also available by appointment during immunization clinics. Ask scheduling staff for more information. Health insurance information is needed when making an appointment. Patients or their children who do not have health insurance need to let staff know when calling for an appointment. An administration fee (cost of staff time and supplies) is charged for vaccine for insured adults and insured/uninsured children. For uninsured adults over age 19 years, the vaccine cost and administration fee are based on a sliding fee scale. For eligible children under age 19 years, an administration fee will be charged, and the vaccine may be provided by the New York State Immunization Program at or below cost.

Routine immunizations are available by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children with public insurance or no insurance, and adults without insurance. The Oswego County Health Department provides vaccines to county residents who may be unable to access immunizations due to lack of funds, insurance, or a health care provider. The department also serves as a resource for local schools to ensure that children receive vaccinations required by the New York State immunization schedule.

It participates in both the federally funded Vaccines for Children (VFC) program and the New York State funded Vaccines for Adults (VFA) program. These programs ensure eligible individuals can receive necessary immunizations to protect themselves and their communities.

Sliding scale fees are available for those who do not qualify for VFC or VFA. No one is turned away due to inability to pay. Select private insurances are accepted.

Immunizations are available at regularly scheduled clinics and by appointment only.

The TB control program decreases the public health threat of TB through comprehensive testing, diagnosis, and treatment of active TB cases in Onondaga County. The TB clinic offers services by appointment only, please call 315-435-3236.

Poverello Health Center provides free health services to those in need who have no other alternatives or financial resources for medical care. The center is open on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Walk-ins are accepted, but appointments are suggested. Physical examinations for college and vocational schools are available by appointment only. The Health Center provides clients with prescription assistance through the various pharmaceutical companies.
