Upstate ranked among best in nation for pediatric care

Money magazine has ranked Upstate University Hospital as the 17th best hospital for pediatric care in the country, and the second best in New York state.

Pediatric services are provided by Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, which features more than 100 pediatric specialists in over 40 specialities, delivering cutting-edge patient care, education, research, technological innovations, and clinical trials.

The hospital offers a comprehensive range of services, including inpatient care in areas such as general pediatrics, pediatric surgery, hematology-oncology, and the region’s only pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). It also offers a comprehensive range of ambulatory services, including primary care and several nationally recognized speciality medical care programs.

Additionally, Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital serves as the region’s only ACS-verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma and Burn Center, one of only eight such trauma centers in New York state.

“We are honored to be recognized among the nation’s top pediatric hospitals,” said physician Gregory Conners, chief of pediatrics and executive director of Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our team and the trust our community places in us. We remain committed to providing exceptional care and advancing pediatric medicine.”

Conners has been instrumental in leading the hospital’s growth and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to children across Central New York. Under his leadership, the hospital has expanded its services and strengthened its position as a regional leader in pediatric healthcare.

Money magazine’s 2025 ranking of the best pediatric hospitals in the nation was based on a comprehensive evaluation of quality, pediatric expertise, and industry recognition. All hospitals were given a letter grade to depict pediatric staff experience, facilities and specialists. Upstate, which received an overall letter grade of A, was one of only 19 hospitals to receive a grade of A or better.

Money evaluated more than 6,000 facilities, narrowing the list to those with high federal quality and patient experience ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Additional credit was given to hospitals with advanced pediatric trauma.
