Upstate University Hospital Chief Operating Officer Marylin Galimi has been named to the Beckers 2025 list of top COOs for academic medical centers.
The list appears online from Becker’s Hospital Review.
Galimi is the fourth Upstate leader to be highlighted this year by Becker’s. Also making Becker’s lists of top academic medical center leaders are Chief Executive Officer Robert Corona, Chief Financial Officer Stuart Wright and Chief Information Officer Mark Zeman.
As COO, Galimi is charged with operational oversight, integration and optimization across the hospital. She is responsible for the achievement of all strategic and operational objectives and ensures that organizational resources are utilized in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.
Under Galimi’s leadership, Upstate has achieved several key milestones, including the opening of a 200,000 sq. ft. LEED Gold-certified ambulatory medical center, the Nappi Wellness Institute, and a new 29-bed children’s behavioral health center, the Golisano Children’s Pavilion. She is currently advancing the design and construction of a $450 million, 500,000 square foot emergency department Annex. Additionally, Galimi has led the relocation and consolidation of pathology and laboratory medicine into a cutting-edge facility slated to open in 2027.
Galimi has driven the strategic expansion of radiology services, including new Interventional radiology suites and the launch of two essential radiology service locations at the Nappi Wellness Institute and the Upstate Cancer Center at Verona, critical components that support Upstate’s mission of comprehensive care. Through her leadership on the value analysis steering committee and various procurement initiatives, she has delivered more than $6 million in savings through product conversions, standardization and strategic sourcing.
Galimi holds a master’s degree in health systems administration and is an Advanced DNV Healthcare Operations Professional. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Society of Healthcare Engineers and will serve as president of the Syracuse Rotary Club for the 2025–2026 term.
Galimi was named COO in 2021. She has more than two decades of leadership experience in healthcare operations.
