New Hope Family Services is a resource for unplanned pregnancy, parenting, and adoption support. It is a private, voluntary, nonprofit corporation authorized by the New York State Department of Social Services to provide adoption, foster care, and related counseling services. It provides adoption services throughout New York State, with the exception of the five boroughs of New York City and Long Island. Through education and practical help, women and men facing pregnancy decisions can learn their options and empower them to be the best parents they can be. Services include pregnancy tests; limited ultrasounds; abortion, adoption and parenting information; adoption services; prenatal and parenting education; baby items; abortion recovery support; miscarriage and infant loss support; medical, social service and community referrals.

The Healthy Families program provides home visits to pregnant and parenting families and their babies. There is no fee for this program. Home visits are made by nurses, Community Health Workers, and social workers, and include health screenings and education about pregnancy, breastfeeding, safe sleep, family planning, nutrition, baby care, growth and development, and other topics.

It offers confidential STI testing, diagnosis, and treatment, plus a full range of women’s health services for Onondaga County residents, including birth control counseling and options, pregnancy testing, and education about menstruation and reproductive wellness. Limited walk-ins are available for STI services; appointments are required for women’s health services. Staff can also confidentially help notify partners who may have been exposed to an STI.

Healthy Families Home Visiting Services are a team of Community Health Workers, nurses, educators, social workers and doulas, working together to help moms and dads have healthy babies, while supporting overall family health. Services are free, confidential, and voluntary. The team offers home visitation, working with the entire family before, during, and after pregnancy, helping to make connections to services in the community. These services may include medical care, temporary assistance, food stamps (SNAP), WIC, health insurance, diapers, pack-and-plays, breast pumps, and other items necessary for family health. The Fatherhood Program works in the City of Syracuse, providing the same services while supporting dads to help build confidence in their abilities to be a great parent.

OPTIONS community health workers assist adults and youth in gaining healthcare, connecting to community resources, and other services that help to increase healthy birth outcomes. Staff are able to meet people wherever they are comfortable, in their home, the community, in the office, or other safe settings. Youth participants are assisted with educational attainment, job readiness, parenting and life skills. Youth who are disconnected from school are supported through advocacy and tutoring. DADS helps young fathers learn about their rights and responsibilities. All programs strive to give participants the tools and education necessary to accomplish their goals. Home visiting and in-person breastfeeding support is offered by certified lactation counselors. Through the 1115 Waiver, OPTIONS is able to provide food and nutrition supports to eligible pregnant and parenting individuals, helping address health-related social needs that impact maternal and child wellness. Transportation, bus passes, safe sleep education, parenting groups, infant care groups, pack-and-play and other items may be given on a case-to-case basis if eligible.

This is a short-term voluntary program that provides prenatal, newborn, and postpartum home visits to qualified families. The visiting nurse will weigh your baby; complete a physical exam on you and your baby; help you make health care provider appointments for you and your baby; connect you with other community resources; and provide parenting education and support. The Syracuse Community Health Center treats women, from prenatal care to mammography and routine wellness visits. The gynecologic and obstetric services include annual exams; mammography; contraception and family planning; STD and vaginal infection testing; Pap smears; management of abnormal Pap smears; regular prenatal visits; ultrasounds; fetal testing; genetic testing; postpartum care and ambulatory care. It partners with Crouse and Upstate Community Hospitals for obstetric deliveries.
